Elia Louis selected to Region I Olympic Development Team

US Youth Soccer has announced that Synergy Football Club standout Elia Louis has been selected to compete with the '92 Region I Olympic Development Team in Raleigh, North Carolina, December 11-14, 2009.

Elia Louis is entering his sixth year as a player with the Synergy FC '92/'93 team and has participated in the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program for four years.

Louis was selected for the "Callback/Region I Pool Team" in 2008, but was not called into action with the Region I Team.

At the Region I Selection Camp this past July (July 2009) Elia was again selected for the "Callback/Region I Pool Team". In early September Louis was notified that he has been selected to the Region I Team roster and will compete in an Inter-Regional event with the team December 11-14, 2009 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

"It feels great to be selected to play with the Region Team. It is a good opportunity to play with and against the best players in the country", commented Louis, "I am looking forward to facing the other Region Teams, working hard and earning my spot with the team."

Impressive Numbers:

500 # Of Players attending the 2009 Region I ODP (Olympic Development Program) Camp

35 Players selected to the 2009 "Callback/Region I Pool

18 Players selected to the '92 Region I Team

" We are all proud of Elia and are pleased that the Region I Coaching Staff has selected him to compete with the team in Raleigh," commented Synergy Director Hugh Brown, "Elia came to the United States and began playing for us when he was only 12 years old. He did not speak English and struggled to understand what his teammates and I were saying, but his football spoke to all of us."

"Elia has played against some of the best teams and players in the country for the past five years. He has grown tremendously as a person and a player during his career at Synergy and he will represent himself well in his debut with the Region I Team", Brown continued. "The only negative is that we will not have him with our team during the showcase event in Raleigh."

Elia's club team (Synergy FC '92/'93) is also competing in Raleigh at the prestigious CASL Boys College Showcase, December 11-14, 2009.

The event is being held in conjunction with the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's College Cup. The CASL Boys College Showcase is one of the premier recruiting events in the country with approximately 400 college coaches attending in 2008.

Synergy Football Club wishes Elia and the '92/'93 team All The Best in Raleigh!
