Voltage Cup Victory for Synergy FC

Four teams from Synergy FC (U10, U12, U14 and U16) traveled to St. Albans, Vermont on Saturday, June 27 to compete in the inaugural Voltage Cup hosted by the Vermont Voltage.
At the end of the day the Synergy U10’s, U14’s and U16’s captured the Voltage Cup with the U12’s missing out on a fourth trophy with a controversial last minute penalty kick.
"Our teams enjoyed a great day of football together and to bring home the Voltage Cup, especially for the U10’s, added an extra smile for our boys", commented Hugh Brown (Synergy Director).
In the Title Games the U10’s, U14’s and U16’s all came away with dominating performances. Each team played the Synergy style of rhythm football which is characterized by quick one and two touch passing, players inter-changing positions and outstanding movement away from the ball.
"To see our young 8-9 year olds play the same style as our 16 year olds is extremely exciting", brown commented "we place a lot of emphasis on possession, patience and pressure (when you lose the ball) with our teams, we will not give the ball away easily and when we do we will fight hard to win it back, this is the Synergy way."
The U12 team also enjoyed a great day of football, but fell short in the final match on a last minute penalty kick call.
"It was very frustrating for the U12 players because they truly played excellent football in the final. They routinely put 12-15 consecutive passes together, built the ball from the keeper all the way to the final third over and over again. The Nordic team would serve it long, we would build it - this was the game. To concede a goal on a pass back error and then lose on a controversial penalty kick is difficult", Brown continued " in the end tough results like this will build character in these players as they continue to move upwards in the Synergy System."
Synergy FC would like to thank Bo Vuckovic, Panos Georgiadis and the rest of the Vermont Voltage Staff for a great day for football in St. Albans
